Foxygen - San Francisco

About a month ago I watched Drinking Buddies. Sadly, I was disappointed with the ending, mainly b/c I am notorious for my love of unresolved sexual tension and it may not have played out exactly as I wanted. However, one great thing about the film (apart from the fact that Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and Jake Johnson are in a love triangle) is the soundtrack. Here is one of the tunes I have been obsessed with since watching. It always makes me dance.

John Butler Trio - Only One

One thing I miss about Australia is Triple J. Triple J will remain one of my radio favorite stations in the world. Sometimes I feel so out of touch with music because I can't listen to Triple J in my car here. Honestly, Triple J always have music at least 6 months before it hits LA, and not just Australian music. So today, my song is by an amazing Australian band and it was #87 in Triple J's 2013 Hottest 100. Also, not to be deep or anything.. but most days I do feel like I keep on reading the same chapter (in life). ;)

Rilo Kiley - With Arms Outstretched (Spoiler Alert)

Today started off as a really awful day. It is getting a little better as it progresses but this song helped, it always gives me hope. I didn't think I was a fan of Rilo Kiley until this song was in the pilot of Weeds. It was then played again in the finale and it was probably one of my favorite moments of television history. At first I was really upset with the way the show ended, mainly because I watch TV shows for the unresolved sexual tension and I felt nothing was resolved for Nancy (in a romantic context). Upon further critique, I realized that was never the point of the show. Nancy Botwin just wanted to make sure she took care of her family and that they were happy and healthy so really this scene is the perfect resolution to the show. If Nancy Botwin can make it out alive, there is hope for all of us yet.

Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Singer

Happy Sunday!! This song just came on my playlist and I felt immediately more relaxed so I decided it should be my song of the day. Also, as per most songs I love, it is in one of my favorite films, TiMER.

Lily Allen - Who'd Have Known

I went out this evening and was quite shocked when Lily Allen, "Who'd Have Known" came on. I thought it was an odd choice for a bar, especially as they had been playing a lot of hip hop and Rihanna. Before I could get too excited, I mentioned it to someone who informed me it was a remix with T-Pain, right as he started singing. I was sad I didn't get to hear the whole of Lily Allen's original so here it is:

The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes

I totally forgot about my love for The Velvet Underground until I got into Fringe a while back and they played Pale Blue Eyes in an episode. Fell in love, all over again. This song makes everything better. Anyway, I decided to make it my song of the day this lovely Friday. Primarily, because one of my favorite actresses (and fellow Australian) was actually at work today and she may or may not be from Fringe. ;)

Radiohead - High and Dry

Radiohead will remain one of my favorite bands of all time. So naturally, today's #ThrowbackThursday is dedicated to "High and Dry". The other week I mentioned to a friend that only two things make me feel better after a stressful day; a glass of red wine and listening to High and Dry. This doesn't necessarily have to happen simultaneously, but thinking about it... that would be utter bliss. Also, some random Rachel trivia, when The Newsroom played this song at the end of the second episode, it was when I decided it was one of the best TV shows on TV.

LykkeLi - Get Some

SoundCloud has decided over the past few days it doesn't want to be my friend. In the meantime, I have decided that I want to post this song so badly that I will have to just start a relationship with YouTube. This is another Lykke Li find thanks to The Good Wife. I am kind of in love with the risqué lyrics, they push the boundaries a little... in the same way that The Good Wife does occasionally (for a non-cable TV show).

 HAPPY HUMP DAY ALL. ;)

Youth Group - Forever Young

Somehow, this song will always make my day better. It makes me nostalgic, not even for the days that the song was popular, and no not for The OC, but for the days when it felt like you never had a care in the world. It is funny how as a child you really had no idea how simple and carefree your life was. Back then you wanted freedom from school and your parents. You thought everyone was against you, like you were trapped and you just wanted to grow up. Ironically, you had all the freedom in the world. What I wouldn't do to go back to those days with the experience and knowledge I have of the world now. Well, that sounded more depressing than I wanted it to. Now, back to the carefree summer nostalgia that this song always brings.

The Blow - Come on Petunia

Happy Monday and Happy President's Day. Today was a tough one, it seemed like our office was the only in Los Angeles at work and two we had NO coffee. This song got me through the caffeine-less day that felt like it would never end.

LykkeLi - Unrequited Love

Oh dear, it looks like my lack of sentimentality for yesterday's Valentine's Day has caught up with me. Here is a sappy love song by the lovely LykkeLi, inspired by one Alicia Florrick sitting in bed drinking red wine and thinking of her unrequited (or so she believes) love for Will Gardner. No, I am not recreating this Good Wife scene in my own apartment at this moment. Yes, I know I am a massive dork.

Sum 41 - Fat Lip (Wild Card Entry)

Yes, it is February 14 so I am guessing one would expect some Savage Garden, Trisha Yearwood or the obvious choice of Whitney Houston. However, while flicking through the channels on my drive home tonight, although most stations had dedicated their airwaves to sappy love songs, KROQ decided to play Sum 41. KROQ, you aren't usually my first choice, but you made a sound decision this evening and have my utmost respect. I don't think I have ever played my music so loud and rocked out like I did tonight. Thank you.

Other Lives - Dust Bowl III

My current obsession with The Good Wife is going to mean a lot of songs and artists that I discovered through watching each episode on repeat. As always, the emotion that a song brings me after being on a show or in a film just heightens my love for the music and lyrics to a degree beyond obsession. Here is one of my recent discoveries and loves, but be prepared for many more.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home

I have realized most of my posts have been pretty mellow, so let me throw this song into the mix. Always manages to make me smile and pick me up!

Taylor Swift (Ft. Ed Sheeran) - Everything Has Changed

I am going to get a little more "pop" than I usually would and admit that I actually love this song. It may be my undying girl crush on T.Swift or maybe my lifelong obsession with duets, but all I know is, my future husband better sing this with me at karaoke one day.

Allo Darlin' - Tallulah

There is something eternally peaceful to me about this song. I also love the familiarity of the places mentioned from home (Bondi Beach, Coogee Bay) and some of the Australian lingo, for example "university". It is strangely comforting. Especially, living away from home and understanding missing old friends, but loving new ones. It makes me really miss the Australian music industry. We always had an amazing indie music and festival scene.

Lorde - Team

Usually, when one of my favorite songs gets picked up by one of the super commercial radio stations (yes KISSFM I am talking about you, try playing more than 5 songs on rotation) I begin to hate it. For example, the radio ruined Royals for me. Surprisingly, despite that Team is now played on every radio station saved in my car, I am yet to get sick of it.

Tom Odell - Can't Pretend

Not going to lie, I probably would not have found this song last Summer if it hadn't been on a promo for The Newsroom last year. Naturally, my television obsession collided with my music obsession and I then played this song on repeat until Season Two finally came on HBO. Can't wait to see what song they use in the promo for Season Three.

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight

There is just something about this song that I will never get over. I wish The Airborne Toxic Event were later in the night at Coachella and not in the scorching midday sun. I would love to actually hear this song played "sometime around midnight" - possibly on a rooftop somewhere. Hint, hint 987 Penthouse, if you haven't already or even if you have, let's do it again!

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

Possibly one of the best songs of all time. I will love this song forever. Here is my #ThrowbackThursday of the week. Enjoy.

The Postal Service - Such Great Heights

In my opinion this is the best song by The Postal Service. So much love for Ben Gibbard. Jumping around to this in the Coachella night air will forever be one of the best moments of my life.

Soko - I Will Never Love You More

For some reason Spotify does not have the two best Soko songs, so today's post is dedicated to one of them. It takes me back to 2008. Although I love you Soko, I will never love you more than The White Album of the Beatles. ;)

M83 - Midnight City

When this song first came out I was obsessed. But it took a break on my favorite list, until The Mindy Project played it in an almost kiss moment and that is of course what usually wins my heart, fav song + unresolved sexual tension. Now it will forever stay on the favorite list.

Jose Gonzales - Heartbeats

I will forever be in love with this song, especially the lyrics. However, there is something about the way that Jose Gonzales covers Heartbeats, to me it is the way in which the lyrics were originally meant to be sung. No disrespect to The Knife, just a lot of love for this version and Mr Jose Gonzales. The way he sings the lyrics is almost desperate, for that one night to let go and give into temptation.

Birdy - Wings

I recently saw Birdy at the ALT987 Penthouse. I knew Birdy was talented and loved her Skinny Love cover, however this night on the rooftop I absolutely fell in love with her new single "Wings".
