The Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
I have been by the beach all weekend so I felt posting The Beach Boys was appropriate. Especially b/c my dad is in town and we love The Beach Boys. We even saw them 7 years ago, which was sadly a disappointment. Old age is so sad, if only I could have seen them back in the day. Anyway, here is one of my favorites from them:

Tegan and Sara - Where Does The Good Go
Today was one of those days. One of the guys at work thought Tegan and Sara would help and he was right. Although, this song may have just made me cry but maybe that is what I needed.
Also, I was happy that Grey's Anatomy took a break the other week from their awful cover song binge and brought back some Tegan Sara for Sandra Oh's send off. Oh remember the days when Grey's Anatomy made songs popular rather than making you cringe.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven
This song came on this morning while I was driving to work and it made me happy. It is funny because strangely enough I have posted two songs by The Cure and neither songs I love as much as Close To Me. Maybe next week!

The Black Keys - Fever
I am shocked this is my first post on The Black Keys. This song made driving over the Grapevine today in 100 degree heat (with my heat on so that I didn't overheat) a little bit more bearable!

Norah Jones - Don't Know Why
I was never a big Norah Jones fan when she became popular. It wasn't until late last year when I was driving downtown early on a Saturday morning. The sun was shining over downtown, there was no traffic and this song came on and for some reason it just made me so happy. After that I went through a Norah Jones binge fest, I played her on repeat while drinking wine and reading and writing!
Anyway, I drove to Bakersfield today (early again) and as I was coming over the Grapevine this song came on again. I was so happy, I had to make it my song of the day.

The Cure - Friday I'm in Love
I feel I will regret posting this, due to the fact I will probably listen to it on a day other than Friday and feel depressed. For example, I have never posted R.Kelly Ignition because we have a strict rule at work that we can only play on Fridays.

Bastille feat. Ella - No Scrubs/Angels
Thank you to the one and only Jess Adamovich who cheered me up by singing loudly to Backstreet Boys with me while cruising the streets of Hollywood tonight. And for also introducing me to this gem (of course not on Spotify). I started to cry when The XX part started = perfection.

Phantogram - Fall in Love
As with most songs this one has special meaning for me. Someone said to me "I remember you were listening to this way before it was on the radio" so naturally like most douche bags and the music snob I am, it made me proud. I know it's sick. Anyway, today I had a day, one where you would prefer to drink the night away... However, I was at this BBQ and this song came on and I remember feeling relaxed and content in this moment. So it is finally making my list. Also, I definitely danced to this other amazing song and had planned to post that but I have completely forgotten what it was so Phantogram will do!

Well after non stop listening to "All of Me" for over a week, I am back on the grid and ready to give other songs a chance. This is not a metaphor for my love life, I promise. Nat & Alex Wolff - I Won't Love You Any Less
This is the song, Shannon O'Neill. To everyone else without context, this song made me cry today. #NotSureWhy

Big Harp - A Toast at Your Door
So I became obsessed with the Stuck in Love Soundtrack a while back. Elliot Smith and Bright Eyes feature, no further explanation needed. If you haven't seem that film then you should, I kind of love it. Anyway, I decided to watch it again tonight. I had a bit of a "sad but hopeful" movie marathon. I also watched Norman one of my favorite films ever (it also has an amazing soundtrack).
Well, it is almost Mother's Day in Australia so what a silly time I chose to watch a film that has a Mother/Daughter storyline because it made me cry like a baby and wish I was with my Mom this weekend.
Anyway check out the trailer which features the song. And here is the full song below, of course it isn't on Spotify yet. Also, sorry I can't get an embedded clip links on my iPad YouTube app like I usually post (will fix on Monday).

Tyler Lyle - The Golden Age and The Silver Girl
So, I am writing today's post to convince people to go to the Tyler Lyle gig tomorrow at Hotel Cafe. As I mentioned in a previous post, I went last week and it was amazing. So take my advice and go tomorrow. I will be there, if I can raise the whole $8 by then that is.

Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence
So today is my Dad's birthday (LA Time). Anybody who knows me a little knows that I love this guy with my entire heart and soul. He is ridiculously funny, adorable and he (as does my Mum) supports me to the very end. He also spoils me, way more than parents should.
So my song obsession for the day, goes out to my good old father (aka Richard Gere by some). Kevo and I share a love of three things (I am sure there are more than three actually but I am not listing them all b/c they aren't relevant to this post):
1. Simon and Garfunkel
2. John Lennon and The Beatles
3. Dirty Dancing (the film, the verb would be creepy)
Hence, our favorite past time is to turn up these albums as loud as we can in his car and sing at the top of our lungs while driving. Until you see the way my Dad sings and air drums to Sound of Silence or The Boxer you will never understand the laughter that this brings.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDIOS! I miss you!

Tyler Lyle - Werewolf
Okay, after weeks on lockdown writing my ass off I am finally back!
I celebrated my reintroduction to the world by going to Hotel Cafe to see a friend of a friend perform. I forgot what it was like to do something for fun and that didn't have a deadline! I also had forgotten how much I love going to gigs. Hotel Cafe is an amazing venue and I hadn't been there for quite a while. If you haven't ever heard of Tyler Lyle you should look him up on Spotify right now. Unfortunately, the song I am posting isn't on spotify. So you can't listen to it on the playlist, but it is amazing nonetheless!
Here is the video for it:

The XX - Angels
I was shocked when I realized I have never posted a song by one of my FAVORITE FAVORITE bands. I have seen The XX twice and both times were like an out of body experience (and no not because I was on anything) but because when they perform you go into an absolute trance. You end up swaying to the music with your eyes shut, mesmerized. They are totally hypnotic. To see them at The Hollywood Bowl had to be one of the most amazing moments of my life. As my friends and I say, "sex music". I think it may have actually been used in an sex scene in House of Cards if I remember correctly. But definitely, the most sexy band ever. Here is my favorite XX song!

Vampire Weekend - Unbelievers
Just because Vampire Weekend will always have my heart. And I am still holding out for the drummer.
But in all honesty, the three times I have seen Vampire Weekend have been three of my favorite moments. Especially the first time at Splendour in the Grass. No one else around me seemed to be into them, so I just danced around like a loser by myself. And then at The Hollywood Bowl, I remember dancing on the benches, drenched in sweat because it was one of the hottest days (at this point it was late at night) LA had seen in September. It was amazing. My good friend Nat was also in town and hadn't heard of Vampire Weekend (she thought it was a Twilight fan festival) and was quite confused at our excitement.

Echosmith - Cool Kids
I had to shazam this song in the car yesterday. I don't want to like it because of the lyrics, but I do.
I just want to make my point that trying to be cool is never cool. Be who you are, be a dork, just be yourself, that is cool. Ultimately, the only cool people in my eyes are the ones who are courageous enough to be themselves. But hey, that is just my opinion. And what would I know, I am just a dork! ;)

Two Door Cinema Club - Next Year (RAC Remix)
Shazam has really become my friend this weekend. I just keep going places and hearing songs I love that hadn't heard before. I do not normally like remixes but the RAC remix of Next Year is amazing. Papa - I Am the Lion King
Today I was browsing the shops of Larchmont Blvd, with one of my favorite people (you know who you are Andrew Peacock), while watching this boy try on clothes I was captivated by the playlist that the shop had on. Here is one of the many songs that we Shazam-ed.
Andrew then made me listen to it on repeat while pre-drinking and getting ready for our Nochella Party. Miss you already Mr. Peacock.

Coldplay - Fix You
If you didn't know already know (*insert eye roll here* because the whole free world knows), THE GOOD WIFE really hurt me this week. It made me wonder if I should work in television at all because I get so invested in characters and stories that my heart breaks. I really never want to feel what I felt on Sunday evening again.
See, if I worked in fashion, I definitely would not be as heart broken of say the return of the scrunchy (not as heart broken as Carrie Bradshaw would be anyway). But as one of my best friends reminded me, it is only because TV is my passion that I am so affected. And that it is completely backwards to give up on something because you love it too much.
Anyway, this song came on this week when I was listening to sad songs on Monday and I remembered how much I loved it. I considered making it my song of the day and then changed my mind. However, on the drive to work this morning it randomly played, so I decided it was fate (when it is most likely just coincidence).
Something about the lyrics "when you're too in love to let it go" always speak to me in this song. So on that depressing note, I leave you with Coldplay. I promise next week will be more upbeat!

Sara Jackson-Holman - Come By Fire
Last night my heart was torn into a million pieces by The Good Wife (Spoiler Alert). I read something online saying "Be kind to The Good Wife fans today, they are struggling." Nothing could be more true. I cried until 3am in the morning. Twitter blew up last night and it is only just calming down. Everyone is distraught, apparently I am not the only one who is having trouble getting through today. Do not watch this video if you don't know what happens but this song makes the promo for next week even more heart breaking.

The Temptations - My Girl
Today was a really odd day. I am still confused on whether it was a good day or bad, I am leading towards good. But when this song came on, it definitely pushed the needle to good. Oscar Isaac - Never Had
Spoiler Alert! If you haven't seen the film 10 YEARS then avert your eyes now. I didn't love the film that much, it wasn't anything overly special. If I had to, I would give it maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10. However, I did love this one moment and fell in love with this song. I always get shivers in the part when Kate Mara realizes that the song was about her. Swoon. But I mean as who wouldn't write a song about Kate Mara, I have a massive girl crush on that one. OMG, Season Two of House Of Cards!!! Okay back to the real world, I think we have all had that one love that got away or that you will never have so I am sure we can all relate to these lyrics. ENJOY!

Yazoo - Only You
So if you read this blog or you know me at all, you know I am a television enthusiast. One of my addictions of last year was Fringe. Today my friend came over and I introduced him to the show and we had a marathon. This moment was one of my favorite moments of Fringe and actually incredibly arty for the show. If you watch the show, you will know that Walter Bishop is a music lover. In the final season of Fringe (spoiler alert) which is when this moment occurs, the observers have taken over and humanity is close to being wiped out. All hope is gone so this moment is beautiful because Walter finds the CD and plays it. In the episode Walter says to Windmark, "Music helps you shift perspective, to see things differently if you need to." Windmark replies, "See things? Like hope?" Walter responds, "Yes. Very much like that."
I feel the same way about music, it can turn any moment around for me and give me hope even in the darkest of days, as it does for Walter here. I love this scene and this was the perfect song for this moment. If ever I feel all hope is lost, this song usually cheers me up!

Soko - We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow
So everyone is sharing this viral video which depicts first kisses between strangers, I really don't understand the hype. Being the advocate for unresolved sexual tension that I am, I believe that the best kisses and in particular first kisses are when there is some kind of build up to them. When it has meaning behind it because of the feelings you have for that person. I have never really understood the idea of kissing a stranger but that is just me. Anyway, the video was still sweet but one thing I did love about it was that it had one of my favorite Soko songs in it.
I am yet to decide if the lyrics of this song contradict how I felt yesterday. In some ways the lyrics do support yesterday's post because they talk about not wasting time and that we could be dead tomorrow so we should love now. But I guess you can interpret that in any way that you want. I guess that is the real brilliance of song lyrics, you can make them relate to your life in one way or another depending on how you want to interpret them. Let's see how these lyrics relate to everyone else's life. Enjoy!

A Great Big World ft. Christina - Say Something
I fell in love with this song when I first heard it. I know it has been overplayed but it is still breaks my heart every time I hear it. Also, I really respect that Christina didn't take over the original version because it could have been overpowering if she did. Instead, she just stayed in the background and let A Great Big World do their thing.
Anyway, this song depicts exactly how I feel today. As depressing as that may seem, it actually gives me hope. I have always been a romantic and have believed that if something was meant to be then it would be in time. Maybe that isn't always true, maybe things do not work out the way that you hope. Maybe sometimes we just need to let go and stop clinging to this romantic notion of life. Maybe you don't end up with that one true love, maybe you don't end up on the path you dreamt of as a child. But maybe that is okay, it may even turn out better. We only live once, so why waste why waste our time waiting for something that may not ever be. The reason this gives me hope is that by only focusing on one potential path in life, we miss plenty of other opportunities. Here is to moving forward and not standing still for any longer!

The reason this gives me hope is that by only focusing on one potential path in life, we miss plenty of other opportunities. Here is to moving forward and not standing still for any longer!

Grouplove - Ways to Go
I love Sundays, they make me happy. This song also makes me happy. Happy Sunday Y'all!

The Wombats - Moving to New York
Last night I had the most awful nightmare, I have never had one so bad. Every time I would wake up I would cry because I was so happy it wasn't real but when I would fall back to sleep, I would fall right back into the nightmare. Anyway, not to go into details but it had to do with one of my best friends and it must have something to do with the anxiety I have if I ever lose her as a friend. One of the things I kept thinking in the nightmare was that we would never fulfil our dream we have had since we were 17 of moving to New York together and buying an ugly shower curtain for our apartment. We used to listen to this song and jump around like idiots, and when we finally saw The Wombats we got separated so we were calling each other so that we could be together in the moment. That sounds extremely dorky now I write it down.
So Lauren, this song is dedicated to you. I am so lucky to have you in my life and I can't wait until we finally make it to NYC and purchase that shower curtain.

Joan Osborne - Midnight Train to Georgia
I have had this song in my head all day today. I feel like wine is needed with this song.
(Apologies for this campy video, this version wasn't online anywhere)

Coldplay - Magic
It is not normal for me to hear a song and think immediately, "I am in love". However, last night I was driving home and this song came on and I fell in love. It was funny, because I didn't realize it was Coldplay at first. Not that I have a problem with Coldplay but I felt like I had outgrown them over the past 10 years. This beat at first made me think it was Ben Harper or someone, but as the song went on... Well, there is really no mistaking Chris Martin's voice. Anyway, I knew it would be my Tuesday song, but I was so busy at work I had no time to look it up. But then of course again on my drive home it started playing again. This is the perfect night time driving song.

Washington - How to Tame Lions
Another one of my favorite musicians from Australia. Megan Washington knows how to make Mondays better. Happy Monday!

Lauren O'Connell - All I Have to Do Is Dream
One of those days. I hope everyone is staying safe this incredibly rainy Friday!

Foxygen - San Francisco
About a month ago I watched Drinking Buddies. Sadly, I was disappointed with the ending, mainly b/c I am notorious for my love of unresolved sexual tension and it may not have played out exactly as I wanted. However, one great thing about the film (apart from the fact that Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick and Jake Johnson are in a love triangle) is the soundtrack. Here is one of the tunes I have been obsessed with since watching. It always makes me dance.

John Butler Trio - Only One
One thing I miss about Australia is Triple J. Triple J will remain one of my radio favorite stations in the world. Sometimes I feel so out of touch with music because I can't listen to Triple J in my car here. Honestly, Triple J always have music at least 6 months before it hits LA, and not just Australian music. So today, my song is by an amazing Australian band and it was #87 in Triple J's 2013 Hottest 100.
Also, not to be deep or anything.. but most days I do feel like I keep on reading the same chapter (in life). ;)

Rilo Kiley - With Arms Outstretched (Spoiler Alert)
Today started off as a really awful day. It is getting a little better as it progresses but this song helped, it always gives me hope. I didn't think I was a fan of Rilo Kiley until this song was in the pilot of Weeds. It was then played again in the finale and it was probably one of my favorite moments of television history. At first I was really upset with the way the show ended, mainly because I watch TV shows for the unresolved sexual tension and I felt nothing was resolved for Nancy (in a romantic context). Upon further critique, I realized that was never the point of the show. Nancy Botwin just wanted to make sure she took care of her family and that they were happy and healthy so really this scene is the perfect resolution to the show.
If Nancy Botwin can make it out alive, there is hope for all of us yet.

Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Singer
Happy Sunday!! This song just came on my playlist and I felt immediately more relaxed so I decided it should be my song of the day. Also, as per most songs I love, it is in one of my favorite films, TiMER.
Lily Allen - Who'd Have Known
I went out this evening and was quite shocked when Lily Allen, "Who'd Have Known" came on. I thought it was an odd choice for a bar, especially as they had been playing a lot of hip hop and Rihanna. Before I could get too excited, I mentioned it to someone who informed me it was a remix with T-Pain, right as he started singing. I was sad I didn't get to hear the whole of Lily Allen's original so here it is:

The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
I totally forgot about my love for The Velvet Underground until I got into Fringe a while back and they played Pale Blue Eyes in an episode. Fell in love, all over again. This song makes everything better. Anyway, I decided to make it my song of the day this lovely Friday. Primarily, because one of my favorite actresses (and fellow Australian) was actually at work today and she may or may not be from Fringe. ;)

Radiohead - High and Dry
Radiohead will remain one of my favorite bands of all time. So naturally, today's #ThrowbackThursday is dedicated to "High and Dry". The other week I mentioned to a friend that only two things make me feel better after a stressful day; a glass of red wine and listening to High and Dry. This doesn't necessarily have to happen simultaneously, but thinking about it... that would be utter bliss. Also, some random Rachel trivia, when The Newsroom played this song at the end of the second episode, it was when I decided it was one of the best TV shows on TV.

LykkeLi - Get Some
SoundCloud has decided over the past few days it doesn't want to be my friend. In the meantime, I have decided that I want to post this song so badly that I will have to just start a relationship with YouTube. This is another Lykke Li find thanks to The Good Wife. I am kind of in love with the risqué lyrics, they push the boundaries a little... in the same way that The Good Wife does occasionally (for a non-cable TV show).
HAPPY HUMP DAY ALL. ;)

Youth Group - Forever Young
Somehow, this song will always make my day better. It makes me nostalgic, not even for the days that the song was popular, and no not for The OC, but for the days when it felt like you never had a care in the world. It is funny how as a child you really had no idea how simple and carefree your life was. Back then you wanted freedom from school and your parents. You thought everyone was against you, like you were trapped and you just wanted to grow up. Ironically, you had all the freedom in the world. What I wouldn't do to go back to those days with the experience and knowledge I have of the world now. Well, that sounded more depressing than I wanted it to. Now, back to the carefree summer nostalgia that this song always brings.

The Blow - Come on Petunia
Happy Monday and Happy President's Day. Today was a tough one, it seemed like our office was the only in Los Angeles at work and two we had NO coffee. This song got me through the caffeine-less day that felt like it would never end.

LykkeLi - Unrequited Love
Oh dear, it looks like my lack of sentimentality for yesterday's Valentine's Day has caught up with me. Here is a sappy love song by the lovely LykkeLi, inspired by one Alicia Florrick sitting in bed drinking red wine and thinking of her unrequited (or so she believes) love for Will Gardner. No, I am not recreating this Good Wife scene in my own apartment at this moment. Yes, I know I am a massive dork.

Sum 41 - Fat Lip (Wild Card Entry)
Yes, it is February 14 so I am guessing one would expect some Savage Garden, Trisha Yearwood or the obvious choice of Whitney Houston. However, while flicking through the channels on my drive home tonight, although most stations had dedicated their airwaves to sappy love songs, KROQ decided to play Sum 41. KROQ, you aren't usually my first choice, but you made a sound decision this evening and have my utmost respect. I don't think I have ever played my music so loud and rocked out like I did tonight. Thank you.

Other Lives - Dust Bowl III
My current obsession with The Good Wife is going to mean a lot of songs and artists that I discovered through watching each episode on repeat. As always, the emotion that a song brings me after being on a show or in a film just heightens my love for the music and lyrics to a degree beyond obsession. Here is one of my recent discoveries and loves, but be prepared for many more.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home
I have realized most of my posts have been pretty mellow, so let me throw this song into the mix. Always manages to make me smile and pick me up!

Taylor Swift (Ft. Ed Sheeran) - Everything Has Changed
I am going to get a little more "pop" than I usually would and admit that I actually love this song. It may be my undying girl crush on T.Swift or maybe my lifelong obsession with duets, but all I know is, my future husband better sing this with me at karaoke one day.

Allo Darlin' - Tallulah
There is something eternally peaceful to me about this song. I also love the familiarity of the places mentioned from home (Bondi Beach, Coogee Bay) and some of the Australian lingo, for example "university". It is strangely comforting. Especially, living away from home and understanding missing old friends, but loving new ones. It makes me really miss the Australian music industry. We always had an amazing indie music and festival scene.

Lorde - Team
Usually, when one of my favorite songs gets picked up by one of the super commercial radio stations (yes KISSFM I am talking about you, try playing more than 5 songs on rotation) I begin to hate it. For example, the radio ruined Royals for me. Surprisingly, despite that Team is now played on every radio station saved in my car, I am yet to get sick of it.

Tom Odell - Can't Pretend
Not going to lie, I probably would not have found this song last Summer if it hadn't been on a promo for The Newsroom last year. Naturally, my television obsession collided with my music obsession and I then played this song on repeat until Season Two finally came on HBO. Can't wait to see what song they use in the promo for Season Three.

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight
There is just something about this song that I will never get over. I wish The Airborne Toxic Event were later in the night at Coachella and not in the scorching midday sun. I would love to actually hear this song played "sometime around midnight" - possibly on a rooftop somewhere. Hint, hint 987 Penthouse, if you haven't already or even if you have, let's do it again!

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You
Possibly one of the best songs of all time. I will love this song forever. Here is my #ThrowbackThursday of the week. Enjoy.

The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
In my opinion this is the best song by The Postal Service. So much love for Ben Gibbard. Jumping around to this in the Coachella night air will forever be one of the best moments of my life.

Soko - I Will Never Love You More
For some reason Spotify does not have the two best Soko songs, so today's post is dedicated to one of them. It takes me back to 2008. Although I love you Soko, I will never love you more than The White Album of the Beatles. ;)

M83 - Midnight City
When this song first came out I was obsessed. But it took a break on my favorite list, until The Mindy Project played it in an almost kiss moment and that is of course what usually wins my heart, fav song + unresolved sexual tension. Now it will forever stay on the favorite list.

Jose Gonzales - Heartbeats
I will forever be in love with this song, especially the lyrics. However, there is something about the way that Jose Gonzales covers Heartbeats, to me it is the way in which the lyrics were originally meant to be sung. No disrespect to The Knife, just a lot of love for this version and Mr Jose Gonzales. The way he sings the lyrics is almost desperate, for that one night to let go and give into temptation.

Birdy - Wings
I recently saw Birdy at the ALT987 Penthouse. I knew Birdy was talented and loved her Skinny Love cover, however this night on the rooftop I absolutely fell in love with her new single "Wings".
